The transport monitor is used to detect transported nuclear and radioactive substances. The devices use gamma or neutron radiation, accurately detecting prohibited substances inside containers, trunks, parcels, and boxes.The devices are used in places where it is necessary to check the radiation level of transported goods:
- seaports;
- airports;
- household waste disposal sites;
- customs points;
- industrial buildings;
- factories;
- medical centers.
Operating principle
The transport radiation portal monitor automatically detects radioactive substances carried by people or transported by vehicles. Gamma or neutron radiation is used for testing. The device produces beams when a person or vehicle is in the coverage area.
The device compares radiation levels with background radiation. When the indicators change, a sensor is triggered, which triggers an alarm. The sensitivity of the device depends on the distance of the object under study from the sensor, as well as the speed of movement.
To inspect passenger vehicles, it is enough to install one radiation transport monitor; the width of the travel area should not be more than 3 meters. For freight transport, two devices are installed. The distance between them should be 4.5 meters. For railway transport, the distance between the posts and the width of the passage is up to 6 meters.
To increase the sensitivity of radiation monitoring of vehicles, it is necessary to install stations in areas where cars are forced to slow down. The speed of transport should not exceed 8 km/h. There are devices designed for higher speeds, but at high speeds false alarms are possible.
You can order devices for monitoring vehicle radiation from the SLS-GROUP company. Modern models are presented in the catalog and are available for order. You can get advice by phone.
